SIDs & Village Gateways Update March 2023

The SIDs (Speed Indicator Devices) and the village gates have now been purchased, as agreed in October 2022, and are ready to be installed. We have done the highway survey with the County Council Highways Department and completed a site visit with our contractor confirming where the installations will take place. The Parish Council already has the Section 50 license required from Staffordshire County Council and our contractor has applied for the Permit to Dig which is a requirement for installing equipment by the highway. Once the Permit to Dig is awarded to our contractor then the installation work will begin.

We are expecting the installation to be happening in the next few weeks and we’ll keep you informed.

Traffic management was the voted amongst the highest priorities for Mayfield in our recent village survey and once the SIDS and gates have been installed, we will have met a major commitment to the village. It will mean that there are traffic calming measures on the B5032 road from Uttoxeter to Mayfield which will help reduce the speed of traffic on this road. There will also be increased Speedwatch patrols and visits by the mobile camera vans from the Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership.

As a result of our work, members of the Parish Council have been asked to provide help and support to other towns and villages in the area who having seen what we have achieved are keen to implement their own traffic calming measures.
