Accessibility Statement for Mayfield Parish Council mayfieldparishcouncil.org.uk

Mayfield Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change fonts and sizes (eg by using your browser Settings menu or Windows Ease of Access settings)
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (for example NVDA)
  • skip to main content using a screen reader
  • modify the line height, letter spacing, word spacing and paragraph spacing (eg by using a browser extension like Text Spacing Editor)
  • change colours (eg by using a browser extension like Better Text View)

My Web My Way and AbilityNet have more advice on tools and settings to make your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Compliant Content

As well as the above…

  • We made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
  • All necessary images have alternative text
  • Links and buttons indicate their purpose
  • The website is responsive and compatible with the latest browsers, mobile phones and tablets

Non Accessible & Non Compliant Content

Mayfield Parish Council’s website is only partially compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA. The non-compliances are:

  • Many older pdf documents are not accessible to a screen reader. Any new pdf or word documents created by us will meet accessibility guidelines. We will be reviewing some of the older documents and converting them to accessible versions where possible. Those published before 23 September 2018 fall outside of the regulations and we do not plan to update them.
  • Links use only colour to distinguish them.
  • Images of maps are not accessible to screen readers
  • Some links, such as the mobile menu icon, do not contain text when used for navigation purposes
  • There is an empty link where a logo might go. We are working to address this.

If you need information in a different format please contact the Clerk – clerk.mayfieldpc@gmail.com  who will be pleased to help you.
